潘吉星，我国著名科学技术史专家，早在青年时代，他在中国科学技术史领域的研究，就获得了李约瑟博士的赞誉。目前，潘吉星先生任中国科学院自然科学史研究所研究员、国家古籍整理出版规划小组成员、国际科学史研究院通讯院士、中国科技大学研究生院兼职导师等职；历任英国剑桥大学罗宾逊学院客座研究员、美国宾夕法尼亚大学文理学院客座教授、日本国京都大学人文科学研究所客座教授及同志社大学新岛讲座教授。潘吉星先生用中外文发表学术专著17部、论文170余篇，如《中国造纸技术史稿》、《天工开物校注与研究》、《中外科学之交流》、《中国造纸印刷技术史》等，主编《李约瑟文集》。曾获中国图书荣誉奖1项、中国科学史优秀图书一等奖3项、国家首届古籍整理图书二等奖1项、中国优秀社会科学图书二等奖1项，以及各种省部级奖近10项。
